Queen's Speech: Britain's PM May Promises to Listen Harder on Brexit

Jeremy Corbyn observed the correct protocol by not bowing to the Queen at the State Opening of Parliament, HuffPost UK has been told.

But the speech glided over the invitation to Trump, which was widely criticised in Britain as an attempt by Prime Minister Theresa May to curry favour with the president during his first year in office.

"Queen delivers speech outlining Brexit plans wearing a hat that looks suspiciously like a EUROPEAN flag", the right-wing, anti-EU Daily Mail newspaper tweeted.

Buckingham Palace confirmed it was a precautionary measure following the treatment of an infection. May omitted several policies touted in the Conservative election campaign, including plans to change funding for the care of older people, which opponents dubbed the "dementia tax".

US President Donald Trump's planned state visit to Britain may have been put on hold, after the Queen did not mention it in her address to parliament.

Theresa May initially extended the invitation to President Trump on behalf of the Queen during a visit to the White House in January.

"Downing Street is a vacuum", the newspaper said, two days after Britain and the European Union formally started their Brexit negotiations.

The state said the Federal Emergency Management Agency was moving 125,000 meals and 200,000 litres of water into Louisiana. Louisiana and MS parishes and counties made sandbags available to people who wanted to protect homes and businesses.

May called the snap general election in a bid to strengthen her mandate heading into the Brexit talks.

Shadow Scottish Secretary Lesley Laird said the government's proposals failed to reflect the message that voters sent to Mrs May in the general election. "We will work hard every day to gain the trust and confidence of the British people, making their priorities our priorities".

When also considering the political turmoil in the United Kingdom, including the threat of LGBT rights from more conservative political parties, the acknowledgement from an actual Queen and influential monarch that her government will fight for LGBT rights and anti-discrimination policies is all the more reassuring, and something that we should demand from other certain world leaders. Instead, she lost seats and still hasn't secured a deal with another party to insure Parliament will back the government's agenda.

But opposition parties have said it is a way for the government to avoid being voted down in a Queen's Speech next year, when talks in Brussels are expected to get tougher ahead of Britain's expected European Union exit in March 2019. "That means getting a deal which delivers the result of last year's referendum and does so in a way that commands maximum public support".

Even before news of Prince Philip's illness, the government had announced that the speech would be delivered with less pageantry than normal a result of the timing of the snap election.

The Queen's Speech lacked the usual level of pomp and pageantry, with the Queen ditching her traditional red velvet Robe of State and crown for a blue day dress and hat, and swapping her horse-drawn carriage for a auto.

The primary issue was scheduling.
