Afghan soldier kills two United States service members

The Pentagon says three US soldiers were killed and another was wounded Saturday in eastern Afghanistan.

"Green-on-blue" insider attacks have occurred less frequently as the number of foreign troops in the country have dropped.

This intensified push against ISIS comes as the Taliban also steps up its activity targeting US and Afghan forces elsewhere in the country. Saturday's attack comes, too, as the Trump administration debates sending up to 5,000 additional American troops to Afghanistan to the help break what senior military leaders have declared a stalemate. A group of unidentified militants stormed the mosque and opened fire on worshipers during Friday prayer in "an act against Islam and humanity", the ministry said.

In a statement from Washington, the Pentagon didn't provide details about what led to the deaths of the USA soldiers.

Several Afghan security force members were killed during an overnight operation in Helmand province on Friday when a United States military aircraft opened fire during an overnight operation.

The Afghan conflict is the longest in American history, with US-led North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troops at war there since 2001, after the ousting of the Taleban regime.
