President Donald Trump's personal lawyer said on Sunday that Trump is not under investigation in the probe into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential race, a statement that appeared to contradict a comment Trump himself made on Twitter last week.
President Donald Trump's personal lawyer said on Sunday that Trump is not under investigation in the probe into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential race, adding that the president has not received any notification that he is being investigated.
"The fact of the matter is the President has not been and is not under investigation", Jay Sekulow, a new member of Trump's legal team, said on CBS' "Face the Nation" in one of four interviews he gave on Sunday.
Responding to the multiple news outlets that reported the developments, Trump complained on Twitter, "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" It involves a choice between investigating or relying on former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, a longtime close friend of Mueller's.
In the tweet in question, Trump explicitly said he is under investigation and calls that investigation a "witch hunt".
"The tweet from the President was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post". Sekulow conceded that there could be an investigation of Trump underway without the president or his lawyers being notified yet.
Like his other Sunday morning appearances, Sekulow's interview with Wallace opened with a denial that Trump was under investigation.
The Justice Department has said Muller's work at the firm does not disqualify him from leading the investigation.
Billionaire Moshiri to spearhead Everton’s Italian job
Indeed, it is only by virtue of Falcinelli’s prowess in the final third that Crotone still remains in contention to survive. In Romelu Lukaku, Koeman has a player with the capability of firing Everton to far headier heights than seventh place.
Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, defended Mueller and his team, noting that lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have praised his appointment. "Witch Hunt." Rosenstein appointed Mueller to be the special counsel in the investigation, although Mueller is actually conducting it. But Trump later acknowledged that he had already made up his mind to fire Comey before receiving the Rosenstein recommendation and that he dismissed Comey because of "this Russia thing", believing that the probe of Russian interference in the election was an excuse being used by Democrats to explain Clinton's stunning upset loss.
In context, Sekulow seemed to argue that Comey, in his capacity as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, should've considered his conversations with the president to be privileged - which is to say, confidential information, not to be shared, between a lawyer and that lawyer's client.
And Senate intelligence committee member Sen. I didn't say investigation...
Himes says the notion the investigation has been going on too long "is just crazy" and "we're talking about the very core of our democracy here". "But the president, as James Comey said in his testimony and as we know as of today, the president has not been and is not under investigation".
On Sunday, it was lawyer Jay Sekulow's turn to try to redefine what a president's words mean.
Sources close to Kushner told the New York Times that the Presidential adviser has spoken to at least one renowned trial lawyer, who may replace or work alongside Ms Gorelick.
For Cabinet posts, the median wait between nomination and Senate vote for Mr Trump was 25 days, according to data collected by The Post.
