Vince Young's football comeback with the Saskatchewan Roughriders ended Saturday.
Young, 34, was waived by the CFL team after a torn hamstring he sustained in training camp, effectively ending his football comeback attempt.
Young was expected to be sidelined from four to six weeks.
At Madison, Young piled up 12,987 yards of total offense and was named Parade Magazine National Player of the Year as a senior when he had 3,819 yards and 59 touchdowns.

Leigh Steinberg, Young's agent, announced the release Saturday on Twitter.

Kevin Glenn is to start at quarterback for Saskatchewan in Thursday's regular-season opener against the host Montreal Alouettes. Young, who became a legend at the University of Texas, hasn't played a regular-season game since 2011 with the Philadelphia Eagles. He went in the first round, third overall, of the 2006 NFL draft to the Tennessee Titans and was the league's top rookie and a Pro Bowl selection that season.
