Mike Pence reportedly hires private attorney to help with Russian Federation probe

Richard Cullen, chairman of the McGuireWoods law firm, will "help with both congressional committee inquiries and the special counsel investigation into possible collusion between President Trump's campaign and Russian Federation", the Washington Post reports.

President Donald Trump, who is now under investigation for obstruction of justice, has retained his personal lawyer, Marc E. Kasowitz, to guide him through the FBI's probe.

He also was entangled in the events leading up the dismissal of Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, who originally misled Pence about his contact with Russian officials - incorrect claims that Pence himself then repeatedly publicly. Trump lashed out at that report at various times on Thursday through his Twitter feed, even recalling language from the campaign to criticize Hillary Clinton as "Crooked H".

Cullen also served as the state attorney general of Virginia and as a USA attorney under President George H.W. Bush.

In a sign of how bad things are for Trump, members of his own party are trying to guess who Vice President Mike Pence will pick to be his VP after Trump is thrown out of office.

He could order Rosenstein to do so, but under federal regulations Rosenstein would need to show "good cause" to fire Mueller. The president also praised his own use of social media, tweeting about how he is able to bypass traditional news media.

Opposition has been fanned by President Nicolas Maduro's plan for July 30 elections for a special assembly to rewrite the constitution, which critics say are stacked in his favor.

Trump ultimately fired Flynn for misleading the vice president. But Trump later said he was going to fire Comey regardless of the recommendation. The move comes just one day after it was announced that President Donald Trump is being investigated for obstruction of justice.

According to his McGuireWoods bio page, Cullen is "frequently called on to conduct confidential internal investigations to assist corporations in assessing the risk of criminal prosecution or regulatory enforcement". The FBI director has been fired for refusing to kill the investigation.

A spokesman for Marc Kasowitz, Trump's personal attorney, admonished the Federal Bureau of Investigation for appearing to have leaked classified information.

"It is a problem if a committee is formed and money raised for the expressed objective of supporting candidates and normal political activities", Bauer said, "but the intention is in fact to establish a personal legal expense fund".
