Trump lashes out over Russia probe

He said on the micro-blogging site: "They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story".

President Donald Trump appeared to confirm Friday that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice, claiming that he is being investigated for firing FBI Director James Comey by the man who told him to do it.

Gorelick added, "Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about Russia-related matters". Most legal experts believe that represents an obstruction of justice.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating whether anyone on Trump's campaign, or associated with it, with him or any of his businesses, may have had any illegal dealings with Russian officials or others with ties to the Kremlin, said one USA official familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"He was appointed by (former President George W.) Bush, he's a professional and he would abhor any kind of leaks and be looking at it himself", Keating said.

Ultimately, it would be up to Mueller to decide whether there is enough evidence to recommend pursuing charges on any part of the investigation.

US Open 2017: Who failed to make the cut at Erin Hills?
Open record-tying 7-under-par 65, his 73 on Friday left him tied for fifth, just one shot behind the pack of four players leading. Hoffman has opened his third round at Erin Hills with two birdies to move into a four-way tie for second at 6 under.

The document reportedly detailed a phone conversation where Trump blasted the USA intelligence community's consensus that Russian Federation meddled in the election and asked the agency to refute any suspicion that his campaign was involved.

The White House has denied any collusion, and Mr Trump has repeatedly complained about the probe, saying Democrats can not accept his election win.

For months now it's been his mission for it to be stated publicly that he is not personally under investigation. Grassley's office said the letter is in response to a recent letter from Feinstein requesting that the committee seek details from senior Federal Bureau of Investigation leadership about Comey's interactions with President Donald Trump before he was sacked. Rosenstein wrote a memo used by the White House to justify Comey's firing, prompting him to reportedly threaten to resign since the memo, though critical of the former director's performance, did not recommend his termination. Kushner's attorney, Jamie Gorelick, appeared to downplay news of the investigation, saying that it was "standard practice" for Mueller to look into "anything related to Russian Federation".

In his testimony on June 8, Comey said Trump expressed hope the FBI investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn would conclude, but did not direct him to do so.

The Senate intelligence committee has also interviewed Johnson in connection with its investigation of Russian activities during last year's election campaign.

"I'm going to acknowledge we had a meeting with the special counsel Mueller, but I'm not going to get into the contents", Mr Mark Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told reporters later.

The memo sent Thursday asks for records related to foreign travel, contacts with Russian "officials, agents or nationals" and background investigations into the top Trump associates now targeted by Mueller's probe.
