Vice President Mike Pence will travel to Central and South America in August.
Even in the earliest stages of the Russian Federation investigation, as more and more members of the Trump administration lawyer up and the office of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, assembles its own team, the pattern is once again repeating itself.
Pence has retained Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuire Woods and former USA attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, the Washington Post reports.
MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski got into an argument with co-host Joe Scarborough on Friday over Vice President Mike Pence's decision to hire a lawyer for the Russian Federation investigation, saying, "We shouldn't pretend this is normal".
Cullen's other high-profile clients include Tom DeLay, the former Republican majority leader investigated by the Justice Department for connections with lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
US intelligence agencies have concluded that Moscow interfered in last year's presidential campaign to try to tilt the vote in Trump's favor.
Cullen was also on the staff of former Rep. M Caldwell Butler, R-Virginia, who was a freshman congressman when he voted to impeach then-President Richard Nixon over the Watergate scandal.

It is just the latest round of injustice delivered by a system that has always failed to hold police accountable for their crimes. The city says it concluded the public "will be best served" if Yanez no longer works for the city. "He was compliant", Choi said.
The Washington Post reported, citing an unnamed aide, that it took several weeks for Pence to hire Cullen and several candidates were interviewed for the job. (Russian president Vladimir Putin vocally supported the Federation Internationale de Football Association chief amid the scandal).
Although Pence has not been at the center of the questions raised about Trump campaign officials, he hasn't escaped unscathed.
Cullen previously served as attorney general of Virginia. One source said Pence was focused with Senate confirmable personnel.
"A convulsing Central America, faced with a lack of opportunities and with violence, is a tremendous risk for the United States, Mexico and the region", he said.
Republican Senator John Thune defended Mueller's integrity and said he needs to be able to continue to do his job and get to the bottom of the issues.
To date, Pence's name hasn't come up in public testimony and news reports as someone potentially under investigation, but his interactions with former national security adviser Michael Flynn figured into the White House's explanation for Flynn's firing.
