Microsoft has finally launched their ambitious bid to claim the lead in 4K gaming with the launch of Microsoft Xbox One X. Previously known as Project Scorpio, Xbox One X promises 40% more power in terms of graphics.
The Xbox One X is the "smallest Xbox ever", according to Microsoft but, for the most part, boasts a similar design to the Xbox One S, which was released in August 2016.
Microsoft rival Sony already offers a console with 4K capabilities, the PS4 Pro, which was released in November previous year, but the PS4 Pro's specifications fall short of the One X. Xbox One X will be offering 6 teraflops (trillion floating point operations per second), in comparison to only 4.2 offered by PS4 Pro.
And Xbox One X supports Ultra HD Blu-ray disc playback and it will stream 4K video with HDR.
Presenting the device to the E3 gaming conference in Los Angeles, Microsoft's Phil Spencer said the console will be launched worldwide on 7 November, costing $499 and £449. Microsoft is even bringing Original Xbox game to the Xbox family, starting with Crimson Skies.

Finally, Profund Advisors LLC acquired a new position in shares of Sally Beauty Holdings during the third quarter worth $523,000. The short sellers will then buy the stock back at a much lower price and replace the borrowed shares, pocketing the difference.
Alongside the announcement Microsoft have added backwards compatibility with Xbox 1.
It's hard to believe that Microsoft was able to make the latest generation Xbox so compact, and yet still so much more powerful.
The controller is compatible with the Xbox One, Xbox One S and the upcoming Xbox One X. It is now unknown if it will be compatible with PC upon release. As such, the famous Project Scorpio will be in fact named Xbox One X, and it will be released all around the world on November 7.
On the topic of the actual console name, Spencer says "the name had to have Xbox One in it" because the Xbox One X is part of the family of consoles.
"The Xbox One X looks like a bit of a beast but for me, I come to these things and I want to see the games and we saw a lot of really impressive CG trailers but where's the game play in that?"
