The victor of an all-time high 28 Olympic medals will race against a great white shark during a TV special to help the Discovery Channel kick off its annual Shark Week on July 23.
"They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: Sharks", reads the hyperbolic press release.
The man considered by many to be the greatest Olympic swimmer ever will take on the water's deadliest predator in a televised race.
But now, Phelps will face one of his most challenging competitors: a Great White shark.
He won against all of the humans, so now Michael Phelps is taking on a tougher competitor in the water: A shark. Home field advantage and all.

The race will air Sunday, July 23.
Phelps went cage diving with a shark last week, according to his official Instagram account. Shark Week kicks off an hour earlier at 7 p.m. E.T.
Phelps insists he is truly retired from professional swimming, but apparently he's making an exception for sharks.
