Gap on climate change unveiled at G7 ministerial meeting in Italy

As at a meeting of G7 leaders attended by Trump in Sicily in May, the two-day meeting in Bologna ended with the United States disassociating itself from the final communique's section on climate change.

It is the first environment chiefs' meeting among the Group of Seven key industrial nations since U.S. President Donald Trump announced earlier this month his country's exit from the pact for setting an worldwide framework on the fight against global warming in and after 2020.

The other G7 members, Britain, France, Germany, Canada, Japan, and Italy agreed at last month's political summit to uphold the Paris Climate Agreement and make it work.

Important players in U.S. industry and individual cities and states are already implementing changes aimed at meeting the targets laid down in Paris, where most of the world's countries agreed to try to cap global temperature rises at 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

The U.S. did participate in other aspects of the 15-page statement on sustainable development and private sector financing of climate change adaptation. The environmental summit will end on Monday. And Trudeau joined five other G7 country leaders in Italy on May 27 in an effort to persuade Trump to remain in the agreement.

"The only way in which you can deal with this challenge, the only way in which we can enhance the environment to pass on to our children in a better state is by working across borders". Instead, it was the United States leading the way, as we saw our own greenhouse gas emissions drop a whopping 3 percent during that year, helping to keep global emissions level even as the world economy grew.

HELENA, Mont. - Congressman-elect Greg Gianforte avoided jail time after pleading guilty Monday to an election-eve assault on a reporter that turned the race for Montana's lone U.S. House seat into a full-fledged political spectacle.

Jelena Ostapenko wins the French Open
Ostapenko set the tone from the first rally Saturday, winning it with a big backhand down the line that Halep could not handle. It was Jelena Ostapenko this time. "She has a lot of advantage because she knows most of the match depends on her side".

On 5 June 2017, the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia joined the US Climate Alliance, a coalition committed to upholding the Paris Agreement.

"We can not allow one nation to derail what 190 other nations are happy to do", he said.

In a statement on Monday, he defended the US position.

Canada expressed its deep disappointment in the decision by the United States Administration to walk away from the global consensus of the Paris Agreement.

At the 22nd meeting of the conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, called the COP22 process, 48 nations promised to cut their carbon emissions dramatically and rapidly and move to 100% renewable power.

Supporters of the Paris accord have called Trump's move a blow to worldwide efforts to tackle dangers of global warming.

And with the top-down climate approach now dead on arrival here in the US, the bottom-up alternatives are getting a lot more attention.
