The Prime Minister stressed on coordinated efforts to fight the menace of terrorism, including radicalisation, recruitment, training and financing of terrorists.
Both leaders agreed that India's entry to the SCO as a full member today would promote closer cooperation within the body, including on one of the main priorities of the organization- fighting terrorism.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met on Friday with a number of senior officials including his Russian counterpart on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. PM Modi had reportedly said that connectivity projects in the region should respect "territorial integrity and sovereignty", and maintain "inclusivity and sustainability".
"I look forward to deepening India's association with the SCO, which will help strengthen cooperation in economy, connectivity, counterterrorism, etc", said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The remarks by the Prime Minister are assumed significant as recently India boycotted Belt and Road Forum held in Beijing where more than 29 world leaders were participants. Both leaders also discussed the importance of enhancing connectivity.

India abstained from the Summit to highlight its concerns over the $50 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor which is part of the Belt and Road Initiative, the pet project of Xi, and passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Prime Minister Modi said that India and China were ancient civilisations with a long-standing friendship.
According to reports, the "unprecedented" snub to Pakistan, with which China has generally been on great terms, was a result of the death of two Chinese teachers in Balochistan recently.
The prime minister in his speech at the summit also congratulated India which has also achieved the membership. Pakistan became a full member of the SCO.
