Daniel Summerhays yells after hitting on the third tee during the final round of the Memorial golf tournament, Sunday, June 4, 2017, in Dublin, Ohio.
"That's the goal. I think this is probably a good stepping stone for (another major)", said Dufner, who became the first OH native to win the Memorial since tournament founder and 18-time major victor Nicklaus himself.
Fowler started the tournament with a triple bogey on his second hole and he was 3 over through four holes when he turned it around Thursday for a 70.
Daniel Summerhays seized a three-shot lead at the US PGA'S Memorial tournament on Saturday as overnight leader Jason Dufner ballooned to five-over par 77 in the third round.
Summerhays started the day five strokes behind Dufner, but took only five holes to tie his fellow American for the lead, after Dufner ran up four early bogeys on another fine day at Muirfield Village.
But at least he was still in the game.
Jamie Lovemark, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are all tied in fourth while six players are tied in seventh and will be hoping Dufner cracks under pressure in the final two days. More than his solid round was the collapse by Dufner.
To that point, Bubba Watson joked Sunday that when he watches Dufner, "it's like his heart is not even beating".
The 40-year-old set up the win with birdies at the 10th, 12th, 15th and 17th as playing partner Fowler fell away with bogeys on the 14th and 18th for a disappointing 70 after he had played the first 12 holes in four under par.

Dufner's dismal round included a double-bogey seven at the par-five 11th and a bogey at the 18th, where the 2013 PGA Championship victor was in the water off the tee.
"I'm excited to have another chance", Kuchar said.
Not yet finished but nonetheless unable to win the tournament and thoroughly unbothered by the fist pump, Fowler immediately went over to Dufner and extended his hand for a high-five.
Dufner drove into the right rough, and after the second storm delay of the afternoon, chopped out, wedged onto the green, and drained his 32-foot, 7-inch par putt, pumping his fist. Dufner was in trouble in deep rough.
"A train wreck can happen at any moment", Summerhays said.
A US Open victory would make Mickelson only the sixth golfer to win the grand slam of US Masters, US Open, British Open and US PGA Championship, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. He tried to play a ideal shot and barely got it out, then chipped down to 5 feet and missed the putt, making double bogey.
Creamer won the last of her 10 LPGA Tour victories in 2014 in Singapore when she made a 75-foot eagle putt on the second hole of a playoff with Azahara Munoz. Thomas had multiple birdie opportunities on the back nine, but his putter just wouldn't cooperate.
"I'm 180 some odd tournaments in and still no victory, but I am really pleased", Summerhays said. "And I feel like I did that today".
