Tension gripped Shopian township in south Kashmir after clashes erupted between the security forces and the local youth who took to streets bursting crackers and shouting pro-Pakistan slogans to celebrate Pakistan cricket team's win over Sri Lanka in Champions trophy on Monday night.

The prize for Monday's winners will be a semi-final spot, nearly certainly against England on Wednesday at the same venue rather than facing Bangladesh at Edgbaston 24 hours later.

If there is a second minor over-rate offence committed by Pakistan during the event with Sarfraz as captain, he will be suspended for one match.

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed is wary of the threat posed by England ahead of Wednesday's Champions Trophy semi-final in Cardiff.

Chasing a modest 237 to win, opener Fakhar Zaman (50) slammed a 36-ball 50 at the top but Pakistan suffered an inexplicable collapse to slip to 162-7.

Despite Niroshan Dickwella's 73, the Pakistan attack - led by Junaid Khan (3-40) and Hasan Ali (3-43) - forced a Sri Lanka collapse from 161-4 to 236 all out at Sophia Gardens.

Mathews, who hit one six and two fours, edged the ball back onto his stumps against Amir to end a 78-run fourth-wicket partnership with Dickwella.

A ripper from Junaid did for Dhananjaya de Silva (1) before a stunning low catch from Sarfraz ended Dickwella's admirable effort and Thisara Perera (1) lasted just five balls.
