Attorney General Jeff Sessions says he was never briefed on Russia probe

Can Sessions point to the policy, in writing, that allows him to not answer a whole host of our questions today.

The public testimony should yield Sessions' most extensive comments to date on questions that have dogged his tenure as attorney general and that led him three months ago to recuse himself from the Russian Federation probe.

Democratic senators expressed frustration with Sessions on several occasions.

Sessions, a former Republican senator from Alabama for 20 years, is expected to face tough questions from his former colleagues on a number of fronts that he has never had to publicly address in detail. "I did", Sessions said. Sessions said he "racked my brain" and had no meeting with any Russian in his capacity as a Trump campaign adviser.Sessions said he did not recuse himself because he felt he was a subject of the investigation himself but rather because he felt he was required to by Justice Department rules.

In his testimony last week, Comey said he and Trump had a one-on-one meeting in the Oval Office on February 14 about the investigation into the former national security adviser, Michael Flynn. A highly educated woman of color, focused on getting answers and who knows what she is doing, grilling the racist, old, incompetent Attorney General in front of the country on TV was way too much to bear.

"And indeed", Risch said, "if you run into one in a grocery store, you're going to have a conversation?"

"A very simple question that should be asked is did Donald Trump or any of his associates in the campaign collude with Russian Federation in hacking those e-mails and releasing them to the public?" the Arkansas Republican said during Sessions' hearing before the panel.

Then, perhaps unintentionally, Sessions referred to a possible third meeting between himself and the Russian ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak, which Comey had reportedly told senators about in a closed hearing.

Sen. Martin Heinrich, a New Mexico Democrat who grew up in Missouri and got a degree from the University of Missouri, took Sessions to task for doubting the appropriateness of revealing private conversations with the president.

"I believe it was the next day that [Comey] said something, expressed concern, about being left alone with the president", Sessions said.

Sessions was adamant that he did not have a private meeting with Kislyak at that event.

Wyden asked Sessions about his recusal from the investigation and his role in Comey's dismissal.

Spicer, the spokesman, declined to say then that Sessions enjoyed Trump's confidence, though spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said later in the week that the president had confidence "in all of his Cabinet". "I am unable to answer these questions", Sessions said. A friend of Trump's said Monday that the President was considering taking just such a step. Sessions responded by saying that it didn't violate his recusal. Aram.... Sessions faced some tough questions from Senators... what did he have to say?

"I am protecting the right of the president to assert it if he chooses", Sessions said.

He said the attorney general's refusal to speak about discussions with Mr Trump "speaks volumes".

"(Sessions) believes it is important for the American people to hear the truth directly from him and looks forward to answering the committee's questions tomorrow", a Justice Department spokesperson said.
