In his statement, Kasowitz accused Comey of lying about his private conversations with the president and flatly denied the former director's assertion that Trump had asked for "loyalty" during a private dinner.
TRUMP JR.: The dates seem very confusing to me, based on what I saw in The New York Times and based on his claim that it was because of a tweet from my father the day after?
The House intelligence committee sent a letter on Friday asking White House counsel Don McGahn whether any tape recordings or memos of Mr Comey's conversations with the president exist now or had existed in the past.
Comey delivered scathing remarks about the president on Thursday at a congressional hearing and testified that Trump had asked him to drop a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into former aide Michael Flynn and his alleged ties to Russian Federation.
With a single tweet, Trump also castigated Comey as "a leaker" for giving an account of his conversation with the president to a law professor who shared it with a news outlet. "I hardly know the man [Comey]". Should they believe the G-man who once threatened to quit his job as a U.S. attorney on principle and whose former employees can't find anything bad to say about him? Instead, it was the prima facie evidence that Comey presented that Trump appears unwilling to uphold his oath "to preserve, protect, and defend" the country - which puts the security of our nation and its democracy at stake.
During nearly three hours of statements Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey described himself as "stunned" by Trump's "very disturbing" and "very concerning" behavior toward him.
REP. NANCY PELOSI, D-Calif., House Minority Leader: I think there's no question he abused power.
Trump proposal aims at another way of getting people to work
Sessions' appearance before the intelligence committee is an indication of just how much the Russian Federation investigation has shaded his tenure.
Trump and his outside attorney, Marc Kasowitz, have zeroed in on this and lambasted Comey for ordering the "leaks". It did not rule out that the conversations between Trump and Comey could have been recorded by another entity. We are doing really well. I mean, think of it, I hardly know the man. Susan Collins at a different point in the hearing, when she asked, "Did you show copies of your memos to anyone outside the Department of Justice?"
"He's a leaker", Trump said dismissively.
The true answer of whether Trump committed a crime will likely fall to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, something Comey pointed out during his testimony.
Trump agreed he would speak with special counsel Robert Mueller, above, who is investigating whether Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 presidential election and whether members of the Trump campaign team co-ordinated efforts with officials from Moscow. The former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief has said the decision was now in the hands of special counsel Mueller. He said Trump told him he had "hope" that the then-director would "let Flynn go", and that he took the suggestion as a "direction".
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Over a fairly short period of time. Trump did fire him, call him a "nut job", and has now flatly called him a liar. A refusal to co-operate with the special counsel, however, would just magnify the problems for the White House, Turley said. "I would be glad to tell him exactly what I just told you", Trump replied.
The former FBI leader told the Senate that Trump was not - at the time - personally under investigation in the Russian Federation probe, confirming what Trump wrote in his May 9 letter dismissing Comey. Given all that, it would be extremely hard to make a case that Trump obstructed justice and realistically, if the Special Counsel was even going to try to make that case, it's very unlikely he would have allowed Comey to testify in front of Congress in the first place.
