England edged past Venezuela 1-0 in a thrilling Federation Internationale de Football Association U-20 World Cup final thanks to a first-half strike from Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the Suwon World Cup Stadium here on 11 June.

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin hopes England's Under-20 World Cup triumph will help the players get regular first-team action at their clubs, the 20-year-old has said.

Venezuela missed a chance to equalise when England goalkeeper Freddie Woodman saved a 74th-minute Adalberto Penaranda penalty kick in an enthralling, entertaining game.

England had the better of the early exchanges with Liverpool-bound Dominic Solanke forcing a save from Wuilker Farinez and seeing a long-range effort go wide in the opening quarter of an hour.

Calvert-Lewin broke the deadlock 10 minutes before the break.

Champions: Brandt Jobe won the PGA Tour Champions event by one shot, finishing at 14-under 202 for his first victory in 19 years. The 44-year-old Cink is in good position to get his first victory since winning the 2009 British Open.

He then made no mistake with his left foot from the rebound and slotted home at the near post.

The tiny but lively substitute Yeferson Soteldo, who stands just 5ft 3in (160cm) tall, energised his side and immediately sent in Sergio Cordova to force a fine save from Woodman one-on-one. Josh Onomah's shot from well outside the area hit the crossbar before bouncing onto the goal-line and out.

England's newly crowned Under 20 World Cup winners woke to back-page headlines acclaiming a golden generation on Monday and congratulatory tweets from a future British king and one of the country's greatest sporting heroes.

With 17 minutes remaining and Venezuela increasingly pushing forward, referee Bjorn Kuipers from the Netherlands pointed to the spot after Jake Clarke-Salter took down Penaranda in the area despite English protests.
