Jnanpith awardee C Narayana Reddy passes away

Renowned Telugu poet Cingireddy Narayana Reddy passed away in Hyderabad in the early hours of Monday.

Reddy also wrote several songs for Telugu films, besides his poetry, prose and critical reviews of Telugu literature.

CiNaRe, born on July 29, 1931 in Hanumajipet of erstwhile Karimnagar district, studied till his graduation in Urdu because Telugu as a medium was not available during the Nizam's rule. He is widely known for his contribution to Telugu literature, Jnanptih Award was one among the many rewards, he has also been honoured with the Padma Shri Award.

This is published unedited from the ANI feed. He also won the Jnanpith Award in 1988 for "Visvambara". He has penned almost 3500 songs in his career and has achieved a lot in a career.

Dr Narayana Reddy was passionate about preserving and popularizing Telugu language and culture, especially among the young generation.

Encouraged by NTR he started writing songs for Telugu movies from 1962. He catapulted to fame with the song -Nannu dochu kunduvate...vannela dorasani.

He also served as vice-chancellor of Telugu University and held important academic and administrative positions in the state.

Naryana Reddy married Suseela and had four daughters whom he named after the four famous rivers in India- Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati and Krishnaveni.
