President Trump and Romania's President Klaus Iohannis at a press conference in the Rose Garden of the White House on Friday. The US President took to Twitter and said there were many false statements in Comey's testimony to US Congress. Trump, who did not post anything about the hearing before Comey's appearance in front of the Senate intelligence committee on Thursday said, "Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication...and WOW, Comey is a leaker!"

Trump abruptly fired Comey as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on May 9, admitting later that the Russian Federation probe was on his mind at the time.

The US president was asked by a journalist if he would be willing to give his version of events under oath.

Comey's almost three-hour testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee was his first chance to speak in public about the meetings and conversations he had with Trump during the months before being fired.

"I would be glad to tell him exactly what I told you", Trump said.

Trump was addressing reporters for the first time since Thursday's explosive testimony in which Comey branded the president a liar, and said he was sacked over his handling of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into Russian election meddling.

And Comey admitted he asked a friend to leak those notes to a reporter, betting - correctly - that the details would prompt the appointment of a special prosecutor.

"You are going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer", he said a bit cryptically.

Comey's release of Trump memo to newspaper: Was it legal?
Kasowitz also maintained that the testimony made clear that Trump "never, in form or substance, directed or suggested that Mr. The paper reported Trump had asked Comey to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

So far there is no evidence that tapes of Comey and Trump's conversations actually exist outside of the White House, creating an air of mystery around the idea and distracting from the many already damning allegations around the Trump administration. That future may be sooner than he expected: Having accused Comey of perjury, the Senate Intelligence Committee is now demanding that the president hand over the "tapes" by June 23rd.

Legal experts questioned whether Mr Trump's private encounters with Comey could be considered privileged.

"It was clear that the president asked Mr Comey to do an inappropriate action, and that was to drop the investigation of General Michael Flynn", Senator Susan Collins told CNN.

"It crossed a boundary that the president should not have crossed".

"Yes, I was on Judiciary Cmte that impeached Clinton/sent him for trial in the Senate for matters less serious than the ones before us now", Inglis tweeted Friday.

He also said he did not ask Comey to drop the FBI investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and possible ties to Russian Federation.

Despite Trump's frequent criticism of the outlet, the Times has been in the first few rows of every press conference the president has held since taking office. "I hardly know the man".

"Lordy", he said, "I hope there are tapes".
