President Trump fires back at White House reporters over James Comey's statements

Trump said he would "100 percent" speak under oath to refute Comey's dramatic Thursday testimony.

Former FBI director James Comey accuses US President Donald Trump of firing him to try to undermine its investigation into possible collusion between his campaign team and Russian Federation. "The thing is, this was just another log on the fire, because America is going to continue to push forward on this".

Comey's accusations could further mire Trump's administration in legal difficulties.

The way Mr Comey tells it, the first time he met Mr Trump, Mr Comey got the heebie-jeebies - for a whole bunch of small reasons but nothing in particular.

"The inspector general at the Department of Justice is going to look at this, and they're going to write a report, and I think it's going to be a scathing report, condemning both the attorney general and the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director for failing to do their job protecting the Federal Bureau of Investigation", he added. Even Senator Marco Rubio, who was among a number of Republicans who battled Trump for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, seemed to be advocating for him at times during the hearing.

"We also were aware of facts that I can't discuss in an open setting that would make his continued engagement in a Russia-related investigation problematic", Comey said. "Comey: Nobody asked me to stop Russian probe", was another.

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication", Trump tweeted, "and WOW, Comey is a leaker!"

At one point, Comey was asked why his version of events should be believed over the president's. The Comey hearing was an episode in a show that isn't going to be canceled for a good long while. After he was sacked, Comey asked a friend to leak the contents of a memo about an Oval Office meeting that he had with Trump to a newspaper reporter. Comey wanted to get his account out, perhaps encouraging the appointment of a special prosecutor.

He also said he kept a written record of conversations with the president as he was "honestly anxious he might lie" about them, and leaked details of one conversation - about the Michael Flynn investigation - after a version of it had already been published in the press.

The United States said it had been providing the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) with technical assistance to end the siege. Maute joined forces with Isnilon Hapilon, who was a year ago proclaimed by Islamic State as its Southeast Asia "emir".

For those who paid close attention, that wasn't entirely new.

On the other hand, is Comey above lying? Prodded specifically by Arkansas Sen.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said Mr Trump abused his power by seemingly directing Mr Comey to drop the criminal investigation into Mr Flynn. "It hasn't recovered from that", Trump said in an interview with NBC. "We're carrying on", she said.

However, Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University law professor, said Comey's decision to leak the memo was "deeply troubling from a professional and ethical standpoint". But maybe in the classified setting we can talk more about that. One humorous moment relieved the tension, when Comey explained to Sen. The White House announced late on Thursday [Friday NZT] that Trump would be holding a press conference with Iohannis.

"That's one of the all-time great excuses to break a date with your wife", King said.

Comey described an episode during the inquiry into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server when then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch directed him "not to call it an investigation but to call it a matter, which confused me and concerned me".

Besides the traditional networks, Spanish-language station Telemundo aired the testimony with a voiceover translation.

During the press conference at the White House on Friday, Mr Trump would not confirm whether he had recordings of his conversations with Mr Comey, but said that the press would know shortly.

Comey also reached into English history to boost his portrayal of Trump.
