Kids found the head Saturday morning in Jackson, Fox affiliate MS News Now reported.
Jackson police were later called to Green Avenue where a burned human torso was found. Police are working to determine if this is related to the severed human head.
The Police have not revealed the motive in the case and would not confirm whether the murder was carried out by a gang. It appeared to have been cut off at the neck, he said. It is believed that the body parts belong to a black male.
Vance said that it was obvious that "rage" played a part in this killing because of the violent nature of severing a head. It had been left on the front steps of a home on a quiet street.
Vance said whoever committed the crime may have been sending a message.

According to the JPD, at approximately 9:19 a.m. Saturday morning, officers responded to a suspicious activity call on 1536 Deer Park Street.
"It's senseless and it's tragic and it's sad", Jackson police spokesman Tyree Jones told the paper. Sergeant Chad Heck from Jackson County reported at the time, "We in Jackson County have been paying more attention and have realized a lot of our crimes involve Simon City Royals".
