Many in GOP unshaken by Comey's testimony against Trump

House Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters Thursday that Trump "is new at this, new to government", adding that he probably "wasn't steeped in the long running protocols that established the relationships between the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and White Houses".

Trump made the remarks while responding to questions on Comey's explosive testimony in which he accused the president of trying to stop a probe into the alleged Russian interference in the United States elections past year.

"One hundred percent", said Trump when asked about his willingness to testify under oath.

The House requested Comey and the White House provide the records, including tapes if they exist, by June 23. "Yesterday showed no collusion, no obstruction", Trump said. "I mean, I will tell you, I didn't say that", Trump replied.

Earlier in the day on Twitter, the president claimed "total and complete vindication" in the wake of Comey's testimony.

Four members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, including Chairman Chuck Grassley and ranking Democrat Dianne Feinstein, had set a Friday deadline for Richman to respond after Comey testified that he gave the memo to him and asked him to anonymously disclose it to the media in an attempt to prompt the naming of a special counsel.

Trump dodged questions at a news conference about whether, as he's hinted, the conversations with Comey were taped.

Republican senators suggested Comey may have misinterpreted the words of Trump, whom they noted has no experience in government.

Comey also attacked Trump's credibility during the hearing and said he took careful notes after their meetings because he anxious the president might lie about their conversations.

But if Comey's account is true that the president asked him for his loyalty and that he drop the Flynn investigation, it could leave Trump in legal jeopardy.

Minnesota officer charged in Castile shooting goes on trial
Authorities said Castile told Yanez he had a weapon on him, but did not make clear that he was legally permitted to carry one. The public outcry included protests in Minnesota that shut down metro highways and surrounded the governor's mansion.

Asked by a reporter if he had told Comey to drop the investigations into former national security adviser Flynn, Trump said, "I didn't say that".

"I hardly know [Comey]".

Donald Trump Jr. on Saturday seemed to confirm Comey's account of the meeting by saying that his father didn't tell Comey to end the investigation, but only said he hoped he would.

"Well, I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future", Trump said.

Mr Trump stopped short of saying Mr Comey lied under oath. Mr Comey's testimony added fuel to critics' accusations that Mr Trump's actions around the Russian Federation probe might have amounted to obstruction of justice.

Some analysts contend Comey's testimony may have done lasting political damage to Trump. The White House has denied collusion with Moscow.

Many have made the argument that Trump's request cannot be considered obstruction of justice because he used the word "hope" and did not tell Comey directly to end the investigation.

Mr Trump's private attorney, Marc Kasowitz, seized on Mr Comey's admission that he had orchestrated the public release of the information.

"I took it as a very disturbing thing, very concerning, but that's a conclusion I'm sure the special counsel will work towards to try and understand what the intention was there, and whether that's an offense", Comey said.

"Lordy, I hope there are tapes", Comey said during his testimony Thursday. His testimony showed why he should be fired for making many mistakes in judgment.
