Bahrain and Egypt severed relations with Qatar on Monday, accusing it of supporting Islamist militants and their arch-adversary Iran - allegations Qatar says are baseless.

"The time had come to call on Qatar to end its funding", Trump said.

Al-Jazeera's offices have been shut down by authorities in Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Most recently, Saudi Arabia branded as terrorists 59 individuals and 12 entities affiliated with Qatar, including Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.

"These drastic measures are already having a brutal effect, splitting children from parents and husbands from wives", said Amnesty after its researchers interviewed dozens of people affected by the crisis.
