Al-Jazeera : Media house says it is under attack by hackers

All English- and Arabic-language channels and its websites appeared to be still functioning after the network tweeted it was "under cyber attack on all systems, websites & social media platforms".

The wide-scale cyber attack was also confirmed by a source at Al Jazeera, who said the broadcaster was attempting to repel the hack.

On Monday, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain launched an unprecedented campaign to isolate Qatar diplomatically and economically over links to the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and Iran, sparking the worst diplomatic crisis in the region for 30 years.

Al Jazeera, one of the largest news organizations in the world, has always been a source of conflict between Qatar and its neighbors who accuse the network of bias. "We don't interfere in anybody's business, we just report", he told Reuters at Al Jazeera's Doha headquarters.

Last month hackers gained access to the website of Qatar News Agency, the official media outlet of the Middle East nation, and reportedly planted false statements attributed to Qatari emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

Qatar is a critical player in the Middle East as the largest exporter of liquid gas, the host to the largest United States military base in the region and the venue for the 2022 World Cup. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the U.A.E., Yemen, and Bahrain have all "severed ties" with the country after-as US investigators believe-Russian hackers planted a fake news story on the country's state news outlet.

Subsequently there were media reports suggesting that Qatar had been targeted by Russian hackers - a claim dismissed by Moscow.
