In earlier raids in the London suburb of Barking, police arrested seven women and five men aged between 19 and 60 at two properties in the hours after Saturday night's rampage.

Less than two weeks after the United Kingdom became the victim of an act of terrorism, when an explosion at the end of Ariana Grande's concert at Manchester Arena resulted in the deaths of 22 people and injured 119 others, London was targeted in another terrorist attack over the weekend.

The three attackers hired the white Renault van used to ram pedestrians on London Bridge, according to police.

An Islamic State-inspired terror cell, discussing ways to use YouTube to plot an attack in London, was recorded in Barking by counter-terrorism officers in May, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Police carried out a new search in a neighborhood in east London near the home of two of the London Bridge attackers.

One of the London Bridge attackers was 27-year-old Khuram Butt, a British citizen born in Pakistan.

Abz had appeared in a 2016 Channel 4 documentary about British jihadis, in which he was seen among a group of extremist praying with a black Islamist flag in Regent's Park in central London.

Police had already named Butt and Redouane, a 30-year-old who claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan.

However, critics say the strategy is counterproductive, in that it breeds suspicion within communities and is counterproductive in that it puts people off sharing vital information with the police.

During a round of media interviews, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson faced a barrage of questions about whether there had been security failures and about past police cuts.

Police said although Khuram B. had been known by police, "there was no intelligence to suggest that this attack was being planned and the investigation had been prioritized accordingly".

Twelve of the people arrested as part of police investigations have been released wtihout charge, police added.

"They are unable to formally identify him until the coroner's report begins tomorrow".

Prime Minister Theresa May earlier said the three terrorists responsible for the London attack have been identified and their names would be revealed soon.
