Trump intel sharing likely to leave allies anxious

According to the Post, "Trump revealed the city in the Islamic State's territory where the USA intelligence partner detected the threat" - a detail CNN agreed to withhold in its report last month at the request of U.S. government officials. Both publications said the information was pertaining to an ISIS plot and was provided to the U.S.by an ally. John McCain, R-Ariz., called the reports "deeply disturbing" and said they could affect the willingness of US allies and partners to share intelligence with the U.S.

H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser, said: "The president and the foreign minister reviewed a range of common threats to our two countries including threats to civil aviation".

The instability, although driven by Trump, has in some ways extended and amplified the effect Russian Federation sought to achieve with its unprecedented campaign to undermine the 2016 presidential race.

Since taking office in January, Trump has careened from controversy to controversy, complaining on the first day about news coverage of his inauguration crowds; charging his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, with wiretapping; and just last week firing the FBI director who was overseeing an investigation into potential ties between Trump's presidential campaign and the Russian government.

Trump's comments came after his national security advisor last night denied the reports in a carefully worded statement about the May 10 meeting between Trump and Russian diplomats.

As Trump prepares for his first foreign trip for the Middle East and Europe, lawmakers from both parties demanded a full accounting of the conversation with the Russian diplomats that some feared could lead to exposure of confidential informants helping US intelligence officials counter the Islamic State. "It puts at risk the lives of Americans and those who gather intelligence for our country", Schumer said in the tweets. The classified information had been shared with the president by an ally, violating the confidentiality of an intelligence-sharing agreement with that country, the official said.

According to Panetta, the ally who provided the information that was reportedly relayed to the Russians could cut off any type of intelligence provided to the USA in the future.

In a follow-up tweet, Trump said he had asked ousted FBI Director James Comey and others "from the beginning of my administration, to find the LEAKERS in the intelligence community".

The disclosure also risks harming his credibility with U.S. partners around the world ahead of his first overseas trip.

"I have great confidence in our alliance", Turnbull said.

Trump has a contentious relationship with American spy agencies. He's openly questioned the competency of intelligence officials and challenged their high-confidence assessment that Russian Federation meddled in last year's presidential election to help him win.

The Royal Court in Jordan said that King Abdullah II was to speak by telephone with Trump later Tuesday, a conversation that was scheduled last week.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said Trump is missing the point when he cites the right to discuss sensitive information.

Secretary of state Rex Tillerson also disputed the Post report. He has also expressed frustration with the continuing Justice Department investigation into Russia's meddling and whether any of the president's associates aided Moscow's effort.

Analysis of the denial by the Post said its report did not say Trump disclosed intelligence sources or methods or publicly known military operations.
