Update 12.05.2017: A new Ebola outbreak has been declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo after the deaths of three people have been linked to the virus. Six cases are now hospitalized.
A World Health Organization spokesman said if needed, the vaccine would be used in a ring vaccination strategy in which anyone who has had contact with a confirmed Ebola case would be vaccinated-in essence, creating a ring of protected people to limit transmission of the virus.
According to the World Health Organization, there is no treatment for Ebola, though survival rates can be increased if there " s rehydration with intravenous or oral fluids and symptoms are addressed. And it's also possible for Ebola to spread through sex or other contact with the semen of a man who has recovered from Ebola, according to the CDC.
Health minister Oly Illunga has urged the population not to panic. "The country has taken all necessary measures to respond quickly and efficiently,"...
WHO said it was working with its partners to support Congo's ministry of health in tackling the situation.
The cases were found in the Likati district. Then, last April, a man with a nosebleed, vomiting, fever and bloody stools arrived at a clinic in the northern province of Bas-Uele in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"It is in a very remote zone, very forested, so we are a little lucky".
Billionaire Moshiri to spearhead Everton’s Italian job
Indeed, it is only by virtue of Falcinelli’s prowess in the final third that Crotone still remains in contention to survive. In Romelu Lukaku, Koeman has a player with the capability of firing Everton to far headier heights than seventh place.
Describing the outbreak as "a public health crisis of worldwide importance", the WHO said that teams of experts from UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and Medecins Sans Frontieres will arrive in the country this weekend. But they were eventually reassured by persistent campaigning by health workers, local chiefs and religious leaders.
"The DRC is a big country and the zone affected is quite hard to access, but it is right on the border with Central African Republic", Kabambi explained. Although it was quickly contained, 49 people were killed. Among the 5,837 people who received the vaccine, no Ebola cases were recorded 10 days or more after vaccination. And the new Canadian vaccine has provided an effective weapon for the Congolese authorities that didn't exist before.
The investigation is now ongoing and information is available for only three of the suspected cases: The first case (and possibly the index case), a 39-year-old male presented onset of symptoms on 22 April 2017 and deceased on arrival at the health facility.
The deployment of rVSV-SEBOV may be warranted in the DRC, because the vaccine is based on the Zaire strain of Ebola that is driving the current outbreak, says Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
The vaccine is the first to prevent infection from one of the most lethal known pathogens, and the findings add weight to early trial results published in 2016.
The worst outbreak of Ebola killed more than 11,300 people in the West African countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia and infected more than 28,000. Any travel restrictions that are still in place to the three countries should also be lifted, it said.
Funeral rituals in which relatives and friends touch the body of the dead play an important role in transmission, as does handling dead or living animals carrying the virus.
