India, Pakistan army trade fire in Kashmir; 2 civilians dead

A Pakistan Army statement alleged that the Indian troops "committed ceasefire violations at LoC in Karela, Kotkoterra, Khuiratta, Sabzkot, Baroh, Tandar and Khanjar sectors". On May 10th and 11th, Pakistani troops resorted to mortar shelling and firing of automatic weapons on civilian areas across the border.

Islamabad violated ceasefire post 6:45 a.m. and more than 7 villages have been targeted.

As many as 14 families from the border villages in Naushera sector fled their homes on Friday following indiscriminate shelling by Pakistani troops.

According to district authorities, "51 schools of Nowshera were closed for indefinite period while 36 in Manjakote and Doongi zones were closed for 3 days".

He said the decision to close the schools in the area has been taken to ensure safety of the students and the staff.

"After a government Middle school in Jhangher was damaged, as a precautionary measure schools in border area villages have been asked to remain closed", said Sharma.

There has been considerable rise in violation of the 2003 ceasefire agreement by Pakistan since the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir on September 29, 2016.

Tensions have been high in Kashmir since last July, when Indian security forces killed a young Kashmiri rebel leader, prompting months of widespread protests and an ensuing security crackdown in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed at least 80 people.
