Four candidates to be Federal Bureau of Investigation director face interviews

Since Comey's termination, the White House has been citing the deputy attorney general's recommendation as the reason Trump fired Comey; however, in an interview with NBC's Lester Holt, Trump stated that he was going to remove Comey regardless of the recommendation from the Department of Justice.

He appeared in place of former FBI Director James Comey, who was sacked Tuesday by President Donald Trump.

President Trump told Holt that he didn't need the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to fire Comey. Trump said he asked Comey.

Not that it wasn't obvious already, but President Trump has now confirmed that the White House's original explanation for why FBI Director James B. Comey was sacked was false - a cover story.

In the NBC interview, Mr. Trump also said he asked Mr. Comey on at least one occasion whether he was under investigation.

According to Comey's account to associates, Trump was not satisfied with the Federal Bureau of Investigation director's answer and told him again later in the dinner that he needed Comey's loyalty, the Times reported. Trump said. Then he added, "In fact when I chose to just do it, I said to myself, I said, you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story".

Apparently stung by media scrutiny over shifting accounts of how and why Comey was sacked, Trump suggested he may call off daily media briefings at the White House.

Both senators said Comey did not come up in their brief, previously scheduled meeting.

The president is considering 11 people to replace Mr Comey, a White House official said.

According to the White House, one of the many reasons Comey was sacked was because he failed to stop sensitive leaks of information to the media.

"Isn't it inappropriate to ask the FBI director if he's under investigation?"

Trump's comments appear to confirm multiple reports that his administration had been shocked at the widespread outrage over Comey's firing.

The Russia-Trump collusion story is a total hoax, when will this taxpayer funded charade end?

While Democrats have insisted that a special prosecutor, who can't be fired by President Trump, be brought in Burr said that person would only get in the way of the investigation he's already conducting.

That admission could expose the president to allegations of interfering with ongoing investigations in possible collusion between his aides and the Russian government during the 2016 election.
