North Korea yesterday said it detained another American citizen over unspecified hostile acts against the country.
An official of the U.S. State Department said the detentions underscored "the risk associated with travel to North Korea".
North Korea on Wednesday announced the detention of an accounting instructor at the same university, Kim Sang Dok, for "acts of hostility aimed to overturn" the country.
A State Department official told CNN the U.S.is "aware of reports" that an American citizen was detained.

The detention of Kim Hak Song means that the North is now holding four United States citizens, with the two countries at loggerheads over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile ambitions.
"A relevant institution is now conducting detailed investigation into his crimes", the KCNA said about Kim Hak-song.

"When a U.S. citizen is reported to be detained in North Korea, we work with the swedish Embassy in Pyongyang, which serves as the United States' protecting Power in Pyongyang", The CNN reports.
The North Korean statement comes during a period of tension on the Korean Peninsula over concerns that the North is preparing another nuclear test or missile launch, including a possible test of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
Washington has suggested military action could be on the table but President Donald Trump has has softened his message more recently, saying he would be "honoured" to meet the North's young leader, Kim Jong Un.
