On Tuesday, Trump's daughter, Ivanka, was on a panel at the global W20 Summit in Berlin, Germany, to discuss women's entrepreneurship and empowerment alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Queen Màxima of the Netherlands, and worldwide Monetary Fund director Christine Lagarde.

Citing the United States as an example, Trump said the business climate for women entrepreneurs is "incredibly exciting", given that only 30 percent of private businesses are owned by women, despite representing half of the population. Ivanka joined the Women20 (W20) summit at the invite of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is proving that Germany will be one of the strongest USA alliances of Trump's fledgling presidency.

"I'm sure she said 'Listen, this is terrible stuff.' My father will act in times like that", Eric said.

Sat alongside Mrs Merkel, Ms Trump said she was "humbled to be here with so many formidable leaders".

Inevitably, the talk turned towards her father's sexist attitude towards women."Sadly, the United States is one of the only countries in the world, the only developed country in the world, that doesn't have a paid-leave policy for the benefit of families", Trump said. "And that is my goal". The first daughter insisted her father was "a tremendous champion of supporting families and enabling them to thrive".

Trump can likely look forward to ongoing skepticism as she tries to present herself as a role model for working women. Many even thought she would be a moderating influence in the White House on issues like climate change and women's rights.

The United States' longstanding alliance with Germany has been thrown into question due to a riff between Merkel and Trump during her first trip to the US since the 2016 election.

Talking about her personal experience, she said that her father had raised her just the same as he did her two brothers. "I don't like the word "accomplice" because in this context, I don't know that that's productive", she told NBC News' White House correspondent Hallie Jackson.

The First Daughter was attending a panel discussion with German chancellor Angela Merkel and International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde as part of the G20 women's summit.

But as she began to defend him audible jeers and groans were heard from the audience. Aside from the tense panel discussion, Ivanka has a jam-packed day, focusing on education and skills training as she visits with Merkel.

Trump stepped away from running her fashion brand to take the unpaid White House role. I'm listening, I'm learning, I'm defining the ways in which I think that I'll be able to have impact.
