Hendrick Motorsports announced in a tweet on Tuesday morning that driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will retire from the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at the end of the 2017 season.

Steve Letarte, Earnhardt's former crew chief and current NASCAR on NBC analyst: "I don't think Dale Jr. can be measured as just a race vehicle driver, because he is so much more than that". He has qualified for the NASCAR playoffs eight times, and has been voted by fans as NASCAR's Most Popular Driver for 14 consecutive years, a record.

Earnhardt, 42, has 26 victories on his resume, including a pair of Daytona 500 wins in 2004 and 2014. Jane you when I don't think he can do I don't think he ever will I think that's one of the reasons that he has legions of fans that because he has so genuine so authentic.

Sadler said the early announcement will give Earnhardt fans a chance to see him before the final retirement. But he wanted the opportunity to go out on his own terms. He is a third-generation driver, and he made his mark on the XFINITY tour before joining NASCAR.

Earnhardt Jr has suffered multiple concussions over the past few years, and missed the final 18 races of last season after crashes in MI and Kentucky. I really enjoy making people happy and doing stuff as a team.

"You deserve everything, all the awards and all of the accolades", Hendrick said.

"When you look at his age, the length of his career and what he has been through the last few years, it's not surprising", former crew chief and Fox NASCAR analyst Larry McReynolds said in a statement. "It was simply the vehicle that got me here today". After looking at Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s stats, it's hard to believe that he's already retiring, leaving a spot for someone new to take over. As a passionate ambassador for the sport, Earnhardt has carried more than his share of responsibility for stock vehicle racing's popularity.

"Having influence over my exit only became meaningful when it started to seem most unlikely", Earnhardt said.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., you continue to defy convention, and define yourself. In the 2001 Daytona 500, he lost his father, Dale Earnhardt, following a last lap wreck.

Earnhardt's successful rookie season was capped by his win in the NASCAR All-Star race, which was called The Winston at the time. "And the new ones that joined us, they were there because of the person I was and not who theyt wanted me to be". Hendrick Motorsports said in a news release that Earnhardt informed his team of his decision early Tuesday. Coming up to the boots from time to time he did a great job there and now he loves the history of the sport we could using down at NASCAR finery that need to nobody better.

"Being newly married and eventually going to start a family I'm sure to put the work, especially the workload that he has", said NASCAR driver Aric Almirola.

Budweiser's sponsorship of Dale Earnhardt Jr. extends Anheuser-Busch's long relationship with seven-time Winston Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt and the Earnhardt family. He also plans to fulfill a commitment to run two Xfinity Series races with his JR Motorsports team in the 2018 season.
