Evans return to football saw him start reasonably well as he registered four goals in the opening month of August, but since then he has only scored one league goal since.

Wilder's side recorded a 3-0 victory over MK Dons on Saturday afternoon and three-points from their final fixture of the season, against Chesterfield, will see the Blades reach 100 points.

Ched Evans is close to sealing a sensational move back to Sheffield United.

Wales global Evans joined Chesterfield last summer and has scored seven goals in 29 appearances for the relegated League One side this season.

Evans is rejoining the Blades from neighbouring Chesterfield where he resumed his career last summer ahead of his rape conviction being overturned.

Evans signed for Chesterfield last June, two months after his conviction was quashed but before his retrial, and has seven goals from 29 games in an injury-troubled campaign.

He scored 42 goals in 103 league appearances in his first spell at Bramall Lane.

It was reported on Monday that the Chesterfield forward, 28, is expected to have a medical with the League One champions this week.

Evans was initially convicted in 2012 and served half of his five-year prison sentence, but that conviction was quashed in April 2016.

Evans' current side have been relegated from League One.
