Denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula can still be achieved peacefully because of Washington's new engagement with China, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said on Saturday, despite growing fears North Korea could soon conduct a new nuclear test.
The ministry said the North is determined to "go to the end", stressing its "access to a powerful nuclear deterrent to protect itself from the USA nuclear threat". Given those close economic links, USA military officials have said that Beijing is critical to solving the North Korean situation.
