Bill O'Reilly has for years been Fox's most valuable on-air talent.
Murdoch and his sons are now considering whether or not to get rid of O'Reilly due to the multiple accusations of sexual harassment and verbal abuse that have been directed at him over more than a decade.
The New York Magazine National Affairs Editor has been on a tear of breaking scoops regarding Bill O'Reilly being ousted from Fox News by the Murdoch family.
Yet the allegations against O'Reilly fit into an uncomfortable narrative for the cable news network.
"He is an incredibly talented broadcaster who raises the bar for interviewers everywhere", she said, thanking his many loyal viewers.
"After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the company and Bill O'Reilly have agreed that Bill O'Reilly will not be returning to the FOX News Channel", the network said.
Tucker Carlson will replace O'Reilly in the 8 p.m. ET time slot.
Wednesday's new denial by O'Reilly - calling the harassment claims unfounded - may be significant to potential business partners. "But that is the unfortunate reality many of us in the public eye must live with today", he said. But after the New York Times report, advertisers including BMW of North America, Allstate Corp, French pharmaceuticals maker Sanofi SA and T. Rowe Price, pulled their advertising from O'Reilly's primetime "The O'Reilly Factor" show.
The U.S. Attorney's office in NY is investigating how 21st Century Fox handled the Roger Ailes scandal. "That's bigger than O'Reilly", he said.
O'Reilly's pugnacious personality wasn't just an onscreen affectation, with one of the settlements going to a woman who complained about being shouted at in the newsroom.
His book publishing partner, Henry Holt, said Wednesday that "our plans have not changed".
Meanwhile, on vacation in Rome Wednesday, O'Reilly shook Pope Francis' hand.
