Russia, Iran Warn US over Strikes in Syria

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Sunday praised President Donald Trump's actions in Syria but reiterated his stance that troops on the ground will be needed to stop Bashar al-Assad and the Islamic State.

McCain also said he disagrees with Tillerson's contention that the U.S. has to deal with Assad before it can fight terrorists in Syria and Iraq, acknowledging "we can walk and chew gum". The senator said it's imperative now to have a clear, carefully devised strategy for Syrian action. Trump is weighing next steps after ordering airstrikes last week. They're saying by covering for Assad that they knew that it was there, or they were incompetent by having chemical weapons there in the first place.

"Russians should ask themselves: 'What are we doing here? Why are we supporting this murderous regime that is committing mass murder of its own population?"

Prior to launching the strikes, Trump said: "Tonight, I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched". I think what you're going to see is strong leadership.

It was in retaliation for what the United States said was a chemical weapons attack by Mr Assad's forces on Syrian civilians.

President Donald Trump on Saturday praised the USA military for carrying out the missile attack on a Syrian airfield and struck back at mounting questions over whether it would help achieve a momentum shift in Syria's bloody civil war.

US President Donald Trump is considering implementing new sanctions against Russian Federation and Iran, the US ambassador to UN, Nikki Haley has said in an interview with CNN.

"The failure related to the recent strike and the recent awful chemical weapons attack in large measure is a failure on Russia's part to achieve its commitment to the worldwide community", he added.

"Rest assured that we will liberate Syria from all kinds of occupying forces, it does not matter from where they came to the occupied part of Syria", the statement warned. "The president will make whatever decision he thinks is in the best interest of the American people".

"We condemn the USA missile attacks on Syria and consider it a clear violation of a country's sovereignty".

But some rank-and-file GOP members, along with many Democrats, have criticized Trump for acting impulsively and betraying his own past opposition to USA intervention in Syria. The change in direction comes in response to reports that Assad used chemical weapons against civilians, which President Trump said had crossed a line with him.

Trump's decision was unlike the previous administration.

When asked by Tapper whether Trump was considering "tougher sanctions on Russian Federation and Iran", Haley said that the issue of new sanctions was already being discussed. It's not going to work, " Rubio said.

"Congress needs to work with the president to try and deal with this long-term strategy, lack of strategy, really, in Syria", he said.

Turkey's foreign minister said Sunday that Turkey has no obligation to take a side in any dispute between the US and Russian Federation.
