Yoenis Cespedes hits three home runs as Mets rout Phillies

Jay Bruce homered twice, including the tiebreaking shot in a testy eighth inning to lead the New York Mets over the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 on Monday night.

Bruce, who is hitting.304 over the first seven games and who has hit three homers in his last two games, did just that in the Mets Monday win.

It was his 50th homer as a member of the Mets in his 197th game with the franchise. Reyes doubled on the at-bat. He has a 1-4 record with a 2.66 ERA in seven career starts against the Mets.

Phillies right-hander Clay Buchholz has a partial tear of the right flexor pronator mass and will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews next week. He connected on a 1-2 pitch from left-hander Joely Rodriguez, giving Bruce four homers this season and three in the past two days after many expected NY to trade him last winter.

According to Statcast, each of Cespedes' home runs had an exit velocity of at least 105 miles per hour. The slugger only connected once in the first seven games. Lance Lynn (0-1) gave up six runs (four earned) and five hits, including three homers, in five frames. "So that's kind of, I won't say premature, but at the same time I'd like to think that he's going to have a good outing today and start pitching better".

Mets manager Terry Collins called Cespedes a "special player" and said he wasn't surprised by his performance.

Even though Ramos maintains that the pitch was a mere accident - because no one would ever admit that they intentionally would hit somebody - the history is still there.

"Tonight, he was hitting everything", Harvey said. He gave up six runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings. The Mets are already down two pitchers with Steven Matz on the disabled list with a left elbow injury.

A former starting pitcher, Morgan is in his first season as a reliever and was thrust into duty on Tuesday without warming up in the 'pen after Buchholz exited the game. Harvey walked off the field under his own power, and time will tell whether this prevents him from making his next scheduled start against Miami.

Duda blasted one 448 feet over the towering, ivy-covered brick wall in center off Morgan. His four extra-base hits equaled a franchise record for a single game. Asdrubal Cabrera and Travis d'Arnaud also went deep. He now has 12 homers and 27 RBI in 26 against the Phillies, and his eight homers in 14 games here are his most in any park in which has not played home games.

Harvey (2-0) tweaked his leg covering first base on a grounder.

Harvey is coming back from July 2016 surgery to address the circulation issue in his arm caused by Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
