The grunge rockers will be inducted alongside Elo, Joan Baez, Journey, Nile Rodgers, Tupac Shakur and YES at a ceremony at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Former late-night host David Letterman, who gave the induction speech on behalf of Pearl Jam, got nearly as big an ovation as the band itself. Letterman also cracked jokes about all of the former Pearl Jam drummers in attendance and referenced PJ's feud with the "beady-eyed, bloodthirsty weasels" at Ticketmaster before concluding by reading a letter that Eddie Vedder wrote to his son.

The evening continued with the induction of Yes, opening with a speech from Rush's Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, who expounded on their fandom of the prog-rock legends during their youth. "I can't begin to tell you what an honor and a privilege it is for me to be out of the house, honest to God", he said. Baez talked about the musicians that inspired her and the causes she was passionate about. But despite earlier reports, Steve Perry did not perform with the current Journey members.

The Hall of Fame is located in Cleveland. His induction speech of legendary rock and rollers Pearl Jam is truly a thing of beauty. Vedder also appeared solo on The Late Show with his 2015 take on "Better Man" among the last musical performances during Dave's term as host.

Accepting his Award for Musical Excellent, Rodgers dedicated it to all the artists he had produced and worked with behind the scenes over the years, saying, "This award is unbelievable to me because of all the people who have allowed me to join their lives and their bands".

Artists are eligible 25 years after their first release, and voted on by fans and experts.
