More medals for New Zealand on track

Denis Dmitriev and Daria Shmeleva each won gold medals on a superb day for Russian Federation at the International Cycling Union (UCI) Track World Championships in Hong Kong.

Press Association Sport understands the UCI, cycling's world governing body, wishes to add the Madison events to the Olympic track programme in Tokyo 2020.

Sprint rider Ethan Mitchell became the first New Zealander to win a world individual sprint medal, beating Britain's Ryan Owens to take bronze; pursuit rider Aaron Gate came within a whisker of gold in the omnium.

American Chloe Dygert-Owen won her second world title of the week today in the Hong Kong Velodrome. He returned home from Hong Kong to a warm reception from his supporters and the national cycling community at the airport.
