The primary objective of the SGM was reported to be the appointment of BCCI's representatives to the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings.

N Srinivasan's bid to represent BCCI at the ICC meeting on April 24 has been scuppered by the Supreme Court, who also confirmed that board's current joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and CEO Rahul Johri will be in attendance in Dubai. The apex court had said that a person, who is not eligible to become an office-bearer in the BCCI and state cricket associations, can not represent the board in ICC meetings.
"We have names of two persons in our mind, Shah and Chaudhary", the bench said, after which Chidambaram said the court can appoint anyone to attend the ICC meeting but Johri should be allowed to accompany him.

Earlier this month, a BCCI special general meeting was adjourned due to the presence of some of the officials, who were rendered ineligible of holding office within the structures of the Indian cricket board.
The top court issued this directive while hearing a plea filed by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) against the BCCI's Committee of Administrators (CoA) in connection with the state cricket associations complying with the Lodha panel recommendations.
"How can a man, who is not eligible to contest, be nominated to represent the BCCI?"
