Girls Series Finale - It's Underwhelming and Satisfying at the Same Time

But with Lena Dunham's television debut, I had high hopes. Perhaps too high: Based on the quippy, quotable trailer - and the raw, devil-may-care attitude of "Tiny Furniture" - I expected "Girls" to be a show that "got me". Still, to paraphrase something that Hannah said near the show's outset, if "Girls" wasn't the voice of its generation, it was, at least, a voice. I isolate people. I'm a quitter. "You know who else is in emotional pain?" she says, when Hannah asks for some sympathy. I took it pretty personally.

Yet, I'm an unabashed fan of the show.

Diversity has never been a high priority for creators Dunham and showrunner Jenni Konner. You know, the one that will become your most valued hideaway, the one to get you through. When Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" comes on the radio, tensions erupt between them-especially because it's the most Marnie song not written by Maroon 5. After years of seeing handsome women paired with shlubby nerds (Jim Belushi, Kevin James, Judd Apatow, Michael Cera etc etc) - something I like to refer to as the revenge of the writer's room - here comes Zosia Mamet as the kooky Shoshanna. I had been metabolizing the criticism all week, and I made a really, really dumb joke that I'm perfectly fine to repeat now "cause I was f-in" 25. I wanted to see a story arc. "I just didn't get it".

'Give me back my jeans, ' Hannah told her. Again, just for a joke.

With Girls over, it also means the end of Lena Dunham doing weekly work to show a very normal, very human, and very naked body on TV.

Girls has addressed issues faced by most, in not all, twenty-something women: pregnancy and pregnancy scares, abortions, STDs, low self-esteem, drug use and addiction.

The North Korea problem
The US hopes China - North Korea's largest trading partner - can apply pressure to Pyongyang to curtail its nuclear ambitions. North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un has shown no indication he will heed the warnings and abandon WMD programs.

Nicole is an avid fan of the show - and while she feels not every show has the responsibility to be diverse, she actually enjoys "Girls" for its incessant navel gazing. "I really appreciate people being bad in television". I think in last week's episode that may have been the last time you see all four together. It's insight into a world I don't belong to. "I want it to feel like adults live in this place". I might argue this is the best season of the entire show. Girls will likely be remembered most fondly for its bottle episodes - self-contained experiments like "One Man's Trash", "The Panic in Central Park", or this season's "American Bitch".

When GIRLS first aired in 2012, I'd just moved to London in a fragile state. "I'm 24-years-old. Don't tell me what to do!" I think it was the Odell Beckham Jr. thing. "OK, give me back my jeans", Hannah says.

Vanessa Ng, 30. Product Developer. She storms out the door and walks around the town for a few hours, eventually losing her trousers and shoes in an attempt to help a teenage girl fleeing an "emergency incident", that turns out to be merely a fight with her mother over homework. I don't care what happens to Shosh. These people are still acting like children... can they do this because they're white women? "Everyone." Hannah storms out of her house. "Maybe she thought you'd act like a f-cking grown-up". Ultimately, I've watched the series until the very end because it's a refreshing depiction of young women navigating the messiness of life that plagues us all, no matter your level of privilege.

Jessa never arrived for her abortion on "Girls" Season 1. Four white women living in NY! There, we saw the titular girls gathered in a bathroom, fighting it out one last time.

"We were obsessed with our finale and we talked a lot about other shows that we thought did it right, but we actually sort of purposely didn't model ours on anyone else's", Dunham shared with Rolling Stone "The ninth episode of the season is sort of the more traditional finale, and then the 10th is nearly like a short-film epilogue". So they just don't. I'm sure she hasn't immersed herself.
