Body odor just one reason airlines might boot you from flight

According to CNBC, in response to the episode, Delta Airlines company customer service agents are now authorised to offer up to $2,000 (up from $800) for voluntary denied boardings (VDB), although the compensation figure can rise to a maximum of $9,950 (approximately €9,375) in some cases.

Last year Delta got more passengers to give up their seats than any other USA airline, partly by paying more than most of the others.

Ms Begley Bloom, writing for Forbes, said: "I've always quietly scoffed at travelers who would give up a seat on a flight in exchange for a voucher".

The aftereffects of Delta's storm-related disruptions lasted as many as six days for some travelers, as they struggled to rebook flights or shelved getaways while the airline attempted to recover from the breakdown. Passengers said the offers stopped at $800.

The airline claimed it first offered passengers $1,000 to take a later flight - but there were no volunteers.

Supervisors can now offer $9,950 - up from $1,350.

Delays and cancellations were compounded by the busy spring travel season which saw the majority of flights booked at or near capacity, leaving few spare seats for displaced passengers or staff who were needed at other airports.

After waiting for hours for confirmation of another flight, and being told flights were overbooked for three more days, the family made a decision to cancel their holiday and go and see relatives instead.

The last test, conducted on April 4, occurred just days before Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. The vice president is expected to arrive in the South Korean capital at 3:30 p.m. local time or 2:30 a.m.

Delta is also fresh out of a rough spot. That's more than $4,000 (£3,185), if you factor in everything.

"We hold ourselves to a high standard, and we apologize to all of our customers who were impacted by last week's events", he said. In 2015 and 2016 the average was more than $1,000 per person. Delta sweetened the deal by refunding the cost of the three plane tickets. If you're lucky, you get a choice of gift cards from merchants like American Express or Target, as this woman did.

She added: "One gate agent confessed that there are people who take the art of bumping very seriously and make thousands upon thousands of dollars".

None would describe their limits on paying passengers.

Those and other changes show airlines are scrambling to respond to a public-relations nightmare - the video showing airport officers violently yanking and dragging 69-year-old David Dao from his seat on a sold-out United Express flight.

United CEO Oscar Munoz subsequently issued a public apology for the incident, while Dao, who suffered a number of injuries while being removed from the plane, has filed court papers.

The airline faces a backlash after labelling the elderly gentleman "disruptive and belligerent" and defending their actions.
