Blue Jackets rookie returns to game after gnarly cut to face

The Blue Jackets wasted little time revving up their dormant offense after the puck dropped.

Blue Jackets rookie Zach Werenski took a puck to the face during the second period of Sunday night's game against the Penguins, fell to the ice, got up and left a trail of blood in his wake as he skated toward the bench.

With the Blue Jackets essentially shorthanded, Pittsburgh's Bryan Rust scored his second goal of the game to tie it at 3-3.

Werenski is a tough kid and was able to return to the game after being tended to by the team's medical staff. Playoff hockey is relentless, but even the most gruesome injuries won't stop these guys from playing in the intense postseason. Werenski returned in the third period with a full facemask and a significant cut and bruise under his right eye - he tweeted a photo of his face after the game that showed his eye almost swollen shut.

Cam Atkinson struck first and then added a second goal five minutes later for the Blue Jackets to make it 2-1 in favor of Columbus.

Jake Guentzel scored a hat trick, including a goal at 13:10 of overtime, to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night and give them a 3-0 lead in their first-round playoff series. Early in the play, Werenski took a shot off the face from center Evgeni Malkin and remained down on the ice for several seconds, all while play was still alive.

His goal initiated the Penguins' rally, and he also proved critical to the team's puck possession efforts.

McCain: 'China is the key' to dealing with North Korea
The Vice Minister said North Korea "certainly will not keep our arms crossed in the face of a U.S. preemptive strike". McCain said Sunday he didn't think that was the case in Saturday's failed launch, but he "wouldn't rule it out".

The first came on a Rust tip-in of a shot from inside the blue line by Brian Dumoulin at 5:21.

Pittsburgh has comfortably won the first two games in this series, but I think Columbus will bounce back today.

Guentzel scored Pittsburgh's first goal in the opening period and got another in the third period before beating Bobrovsky for the victor in OT.

"Desperate", Dubinsky said. "We have no other choice".

That quest couldn't be off to a better start through three games after making easy work of the Blue Jackets, who you'll remember held the NHL's fourth-best record this year.

Game 4 is Tuesday night. Now in his first National Hockey League playoffs since 2012, Radulov leads the Habs with five points in three games.

David Schlemko - San Jose's veteran blueliner had an egregious turnover that led to the only goal of the game in a 1-0 Game Three loss to Edmonton.
