The SDF is a coalition of Arab and Kurdish fighters and is considered by the United States to be the most effective local force fighting against ISIS.
The coalition airstrike occurred Tuesday near Tabqah, where US -backed Syrian Democratic Forces are engaged in a key battle against the Islamic State over a strategically important dam.
Meanwhile, a misdirected airstrike by the US-led coalition earlier this week killed 18 allied fighters battling the Islamic State group in Syria, the USA military said.
The battlefield in Syria has grown even more tense in the last week after the United States struck a Syrian airfield in retaliation for a chemical weapons attack US officials say was carried out by Syrian regime forces.
In the release, Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve said the April 11 airstrike was requested by partnered forces fighting ISIS south of Tabqa, Syria, who identified it as an ISIS fighting position.
In its daily summary of anti-ISIS airstrikes issued Wednesday, the coalition said its forces "conducted four strikes consisting of seven engagements against ISIS targets".

Central command says it is reviewing the events that led up to the misdirected strike and implementing changes to prevent another such incident.
As the US-led military campaigns against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria have intensified in recent months, so, too, have reports of civilian casualties and, now, friendly fire.
It comes as the SDF launches another phase in its campaign to capture Raqqa, a Euphrates River city that is home to 300,000 people and has been besieged by ISIS.
Since the air strikes, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told the AFP that the chemical attack in Khan Sheikhun was a "100 percent fabrication".
In an update on the USA -led coalition's offensive against ISIS in Raqqa, the joint task force's spokesman said Wednesday that the coalition was "clearing ISIS fighters from the territory in the vicinity of Tabqa".
