Markey mentioned how Trump had promised during the presidential campaign that anyone he nominated to the Court would be anti-abortion and pro-gun rights, what the senator described as litmus tests.
The oath was administered during the White House ceremony by Justice Anthony Kennedy, whom Gorsuch once served as a law clerk.
Gorsuch took the oath of office-taken by public servants in all US government branches-at the private ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m.at the Supreme Court.
For his part, Gorsuch said: " I am humbled by the trust placed in me today.
During 11 years on the federal appeals court in Denver, Gorsuch mirrored Scalia's originalist approach to the law, interpreting the Constitution according to the meaning understood by those who drafted it.

Republican lawmakers refused to consider Barack Obama's nominee to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, a conservative, who died in February past year. And we should all keep in mind just how much hard work and unyielding dishonesty went into stealing this Supreme Court seat. Prestigious Supreme Court clerkships for Justices Byron White - the first justice from Colorado - and Kennedy.
"Today is a historic day, as a fine man and excellent judge has now become our nation's 113th Supreme Court justice", Malcolm said. He joins a court that has five Catholics and three Jews.
Gorsuch's confirmation comes at the end of a long, unseemly, petulant, politically and civically corrosive sequence of events that has gone on now for more than a year, and from which nearly no one involved has emerged unsullied.
