Westbrook relishes his triple-double moment

"I'm just truly honored to do it here, especially, in Oklahoma City", Westbrook said after the game, calling his season "a blessing". Westbrook was on his way to a triple-double with 15 points, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds, but he still had a ways to go.

Just when you thought NBA fans and basketball historians couldn't get enough, Russell Westbrook has chose to put himself in position to re-write history.

When Oscar Robertson tallied the lone triple-double average during the 1961-62 season, with 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 11.4 assists, he recorded an unfathomable 41 triple-doubles to reach the gaudy figures.

This was a road game. But it was the way that Westbrook did it on this night, resembling more a Stephen Curry or Damian Lillard rather than LeBron James, choosing to shoot from long range rather than bull his way to the rim. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 11 and pulled down 10 rebounds, but Milwaukee connected on just 35.8% of their shots and dropped their second straight decision.

Westbrook and Robertson are now the only two players to register at least 41 triple-doubles in a season.

"Definitely, man", Westbrook said with a big smile. "I think it will get us even more prepared, even more locked-in, win or lose". "That's the most important part to me".

The Oklahoma City Thunder handily beat the visiting Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night and Westbrook tied National Basketball Association legend Oscar Robertson's triple-double record for a single season. "That's something I can sit back and be thankful for players like him".

Andre Roberson inbounded the ball, and with the crowd buzzing, Westbrook cranked a straightaway 3-pointer. However, Memphis gained their first lead (14-13) thanks to a Vince Carter 3 pointer.

"We held him from getting a triple-double", Memphis coach David Fizdale said.

With his left leg crossed in front of his right, Russell Westbrook gave a little wave and patted his heart.

The Nuggets moved within a half-game of Portland for the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference. Chicago, though, plays its final four games against non-playoff teams.

"It wasn't something I thought about", Robertson told The Oklahoman newspaper recently. I hate the narrative where players don't need rest or they shouldn't rest if given the opportunity, but Russell Westbrook has played every game this season.

He needs only 16 assists in the Thunder's last five regular season games to average a triple-double this term, a mark only Robertson accomplished over a full 82-game season.

In a win against one of the longest and most athletic teams in the National Basketball Association, the Thunder managed 18 first half assists and 29 for the game, with just 13 turnovers for the entire night.

Ovechkin said Tuesday he would play at the games anyway, suggesting the National Hockey League was bluffing. Westbrook wrapped up his triple-double with 9:17 left in the third quarter.

A series, not the entire year.
