Spokeswoman Frauke Koehler said investigators had found three letters near the scene, all with the same content suggesting a possible Islamist motive.

One of several claims of responsibility for the attack mentioned a demand for the withdrawal of German Tornado jets from Syria and the closure of the US Air Force's Ramstein air base in Germany. Their homes have been searched and one has been temporarily detained, she said.

German police later announced that they had arrested one suspect with what prosecutors described as links to "the Islamist spectrum", the Guardian reported.

The match has been postponed until Wednesday at 1845 (1645 GMT), which Barta will miss, and German daily Bild claim he will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Dortmund fans used the hashtag "bed for away fans" to help Monaco supporters find accommodation after the match was postponed to Wednesday.

Bild put out a full-page advert in Dortmund's yellow and its BVB 09 logo, with the message: "You'll never walk alone". "I was proud of the solidarity shown by the red and white fans", said Mr Pascal Pedro, a Monaco fan.

"I have a bit more experience than my players and I told them not to worry so much about it, try not to think so much about it, it does not get better", Tuchel said.
