The April 6 USA military missile strike that targeted Shayrat airfield in Syria was a measured response to Syrian President Bashar Assad regime's April 4 chemical weapons attack in Khan Sheikhoun, Syria, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in a statement issued today.
"The nation of Iran will remain alongside the Syrian nation in fighting terrorism and safeguarding Syria's territorial integrity", Rouhani said in the call in the evening on April 8, according to a statement on the presidency website.
On Thursday night, President Trump ordered Tomahawk cruise missile strikes on a Syrian airfield in response to what the United States believes was a chemical weapons attack at the hands of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
An air strike by the United States airforce in response to a suspected chemical attack damaged or destroyed 20 percent of Syria's operational aircraft, USA defence secretary James Mattis says.
British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon criticised Russia's support of Assad, describing the chemical attack as a war crime that happened "on their watch". "I said, what can we do?" Indeed, Shayrat is operational again; Khan Sheikhoun, the scene of the chemical attack, has been the subject of air strikes; and killing continues in skirmishes across Syria.
The accusations, leveled shortly after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrived in Moscow for high-level talks, were certain to escalate tensions that already had been heightened after the US struck a Syrian air base last week.
United Airlines shares plunge
The United Airlines Contract of Carriage permits the airline carrier to deny boarding to a passenger if the flight is overbooked. When none of them did, the airline told four passengers who were selected at random that they had to get off the plane.
"The prime minister and the president agreed that a window of opportunity now exists in which to persuade Russian Federation that its alliance with Assad is no longer in its strategic interest", the spokeswoman said. We are ensuring that ISIS is contained and there is a de-escalation of the proliferation of chemical weapons at the same time creating the environment for a change in leadership.
After seeing intelligence on last week's Syrian chemical attack, Secretary of Defense James Mattis has "no doubt" the Syrian regime is responsible, he told reporters at the Pentagon Tuesday.
Meanwhile, US national security adviser Lieutenant-General H R McMaster described the US' goals to defeat IS as well as ousting Mr Assad as somewhat "simultaneous". But if I see them using gas and using things that - I mean even some of the worst tyrants in the world didn't use the kind of gases that they used.
Russian Federation has criticised the USA military intervention as a "gross. violation of worldwide law".
"If Russia wants to be absolved of responsibility for future attacks, (President) Vladimir Putin needs to enforce commitments, dismantle Assad's chemical weapons arsenal for good and get fully engaged" with the United Nations peace process on Syria. Earlier, U.S. military officials had said they were looking into whether Russian Federation participated, possibly by using a drone to help eliminate evidence afterward. The U.S. and various experts have dismissed the allegation. "[What] we are saying is, other countries have to ask themselves some hard questions", he said. "It's - getting Assad out is not the only priority".
