The teacher was identified by law enforcement officials as Karen Elaine Smith, 53, Monday afternoon.

A survivor of the December 2, 2015, Inland Regional Center attack that killed 14 people in San Bernardino wondered if police or armed security guards should stand watch at every school and if elementary schools now need metal detectors.

Anderson seemed to relish the lighthearted squabbles of domestic life, saying in a Facebook video in late February: "What I love about my wife, boy".

- Chief Jarrod Burguan (@SBPDChief) April 10, 2017My thoughts and prayers are with the victims & children at Northpark Elementary. After placing flowers, people turn away from a sidewalk memorial to the teacher and student who were shot to death Monday at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino, Calif., Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Anderson then killed himself.

Karen Smith tied the knot in January with a man she had known for years.

The couple divorced in 1997.

Another of Anderson's girlfriends was awarded a restraining order in 2013 after she said Anderson tried to kill her. "My friend and my teacher, they got shot".

"I'm glad my daughter is fine", said Angelique Youmans, 31, as she hugged her 10-year-old daughter.

The two students struck by gunfire had been standing behind Smith, the chief said.

Jonathan Martinez, 8, was killed in the San Bernardino elementary school shooting on Monday.

Security camera footage shows him walking around the perimeter of the school, trying to open doors that were locked, before walking to the front office to check in, San Bernardino City Unified School District Superintendent Dale Marsden said.

"Parents often say the joy and perspective a child with Williams syndrome brings into their lives had been unimaginable", Marsden said Tuesday, quoting from the Williams syndrome Association. He said by all accounts Jonathan was a happy child.

Two male students, who were injured as Anderson fired at his wife, were taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Marsden said that a candlelight vigil would be held Tuesday evening for Jonathan and the other victims.

Burguan told reporters that there was no verification that the infidelity accusation was true.

CT police say a man wearing a T-shirt that said "Hold My Beer And Watch This" has been arrested for driving under the influence after he crashed into a graveyard.

Smith's loved ones told investigators that she had said she was concerned about her husband's odd behavior and that he had made threats against her, but not to shoot her. Burguan said the couple had been married briefly and had been separated for about a month or month and a half. Smith moved out of their home and had been staying with family. His employment history included working as a pastor and maintenance work. Burguan said police searched Anderson's residence and did not find a suicide note. "And today is the day for that", said Bishop Gerald Barnes, of the Diocese of San Bernardino.

School district officials say classes at North Park Elementary are canceled for at least Tuesday and Wednesday. Other students were taken to Cajon High School for their safety and were being released to their parents.

Burguan said that at the time of the shooting there were 15 students from grades one through four in the special needs classroom, along with two adult aides.

Students, close in age to the special education students who were shot in the attack, told KABC-TV that Smith was a "good teacher".
