Amazon is Bringing Quantum Computing Technology to Customers

Google and IBM have been trying to outdo each other for years in this research domain. AWS not having a quantum research division made a decision to stay quiet, until now.

Amazon Web Services has announced three quantum computing services that'll bring the super-futuristic supercomputing technology within reach of everyday folks, as reported Monday by CNET sister site ZDNet.

This gives AWS customers access to gate-based and quantum annealing superconducting cubits from Rigetti and D-Wave respectively, as well as ion-trap quantum computers from IonQ.

Like Microsoft, Braket provides Quantum hardware from a number of partners.

Users can build and test their circuits in a classically powered simulation environment, and then run them on an actual quantum computer.

Amazon introduced the Quantum Compute Cloud in 2010. "And with our AWS Centre for Quantum Computing and academic partnerships, we join the effort across the scientific and industrial communities to help accelerate the promise of quantum computing".

Quantum computing is important to many in the United States government, noted Jim McGregor, principal analyst at Tirias Research.

Matt Wood, the VP of AI at Amazon Web Services, told CNBC that the objective of this technology, "is to free up the doctor, so they have more attention going to where it should be directed".

Braket is not Amazon's only initiative related to quantum computing.

The components used in, known as Quantum bits or popularly Qubits, are used by researchers or developers to study the data and frame optimal solutions for any given problem. Amazon is also working on designing its own quantum computers.

AWS said Amazon Kendra reinvents enterprise search by allowing employees to search across multiple silos of data using real questions and deploys AI technology behind the scenes to deliver the precise answers they seek.

Today, at AWS re:Invent, Amazon help advance quantum computing technologies. Once the AWS Outposts is plugged into power and network connections, customers can view their newly activated AWS Outpost in the AWS Management Console and use it to launch and manage EC2 instances, EBS volumes, and AWS resources in their Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), using the same AWS Management Console, Software Development Kit (SDK) or Command Line Interface (CLI) tools as they use in AWS today.
