The National Weather Service says the storm is expected to drop 6 to 12 inches of snow from the northern Plains states into Minnesota, Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Portions of Pennsylvania are being warned of risky ice accumulation occurring Sunday, which officials say will cause travel to be "nearly impossible".
Road crews had 1,200 pieces of equipment available Sunday for what was "expected to be mostly a salting operation", according to DOT Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti. Andrew Cuomo cut short a trip to Puerto Rico to return home and deal with the storm.

Farther east, blizzard conditions Saturday are buffeting the High Plains and around Duluth. Unplowed roads have 12 to 18 inches of snow. The city of Duluth, Minn., issued a no-travel advisory beginning noon Saturday because of a major snowstorm it termed "historic".
To the south, rain and thunderstorms were forecast along and ahead of the cold front, with heavy rainfall possible in parts of the Tennessee and OH valleys.
The National Weather Service's latest snowfall forecast map showed increased snow totals for almost all of New Jersey.
A new system was forecast to develop in the mid-Atlantic on Sunday, moving as a nor'easter into Monday.
